How long have you been coming to Lift?
I used to go to Barnard Park Adventure Playground and I met Judith there, she was doing an outreach project, and she suggested I come to Lift. It was about six years ago now.

What do you do?
Lots. I used to do street dance but now the main things are parkour and freerunning, cooking, street dance, boxing and I work out in the gym. Also I use the Free Space – where you can come and use the studio to do your own thing – so great to be able to practice choreography.

When I first came all the boys took me under their wing and now it is my turn to be nice to the new people and to take care of them.

How does Lift help you?
I need to improve my strength and stamina. The amount of sports activity is on offer I can get my fitness up while still having fun. I have just started at the Brit school and Lift helped me get there.

What is the most important thing you have learnt?
The whole thing of it is not to judge people when you first meet them. Everyone makes assumptions, that is natural, but everyone here is from such different backgrounds that you can’t assume anything about anyone.

What is the most fun you have ever had?
There is way too many times to choose. Everything I have done here has been such an amazing experience. I really enjoyed taking part in performances.

What would you say to a young person that has never been here before?
Come here and just chill. The gym is great, it is so cheap, only £1 to use and you get the same quality as an expensive gym. You can’t get this value anywhere else.

What do you hope to be doing in three years’ time?
I want to be able to perform as a dancer in on stage.
